2008 TRACK RULES FOR ALL CLASSES

 

            **Track Official decisions will be final.  We cannot make the rules to fit everyone's needs and desires, so if you run, please be willing to go by the rules outlined in this book.  All race cars in all divisions are subject to be teched and inspected by the race track at any time.**

 

Fire Extinguishers Mandatory in all divisions.

 

Driving suits Mandatory in all divisions - If caught without complete driving suit in competition, driver will be disqualified.

 

Safety Helmets Mandatory in all divisions.

 

RACEceiver is Mandatory in all divisions.

 

GENERAL RULES AND CONDUCT

            This General Rule Section applies to each and every driver, mechanic, and pit personnel.  You are expected to know the rules.  Ignorance of the rules will not be accepted as an excuse.

 

1.   We expect courteous conduct from all participants at all times.  Each and every one

      of you has an image to uphold for the fans and the name of Lavonia Speedway.   

      We do not tolerate profanity in front of fans, officials, or  management.

 

2.   If at any time your dress, actions, or conduct are not in the best interest of Lavonia

      Speedway, you must leave the grounds and suspension may be awarded.

 

3.   No driver may get out of his car on the track or infield to argue or discuss the race

      with the officials.  If this rule is violated the driver may be disqualified for the

      event or suspended.

 

4.    THERE WILL BE NO DRINKING OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES

      BEFORE, DURING, OR AFTER THE RACING PROGRAM IN THE

      PITS.  Alcoholic beverages and controlled substances are not allowed in the pit

      areas.  Anyone caught with either of these on their person or in his equipment    

       may  be suspended.

 

5.   The display or use of any type of weapon at any time will result in permanent

      suspension for all parties involved and may result in the arrest of all parties

      involved.

 

6.   Any disagreement over technical questions or decisions will be resolved by the

      official and management.  When their decision is rendered, it is final and binding,

      and no further discussion will take place.

 

7.   The management and officials will determine finishing positions, and their

      decisions are final.

 

8.   People in the pit area may not leave the pits during the program unless they turn in

      their pit pass.  Once you go out, you may not come back in.

 

9.   Lavonia Speedway is private property.  Through your  admission ticket you have  

      been given the right to be on this property in conjunction with racing activities.   

      However, the management of Lavonia Speedway reserves the right to revoke and  

      cancel this right at any time that it is felt that your  presence or conduct is not in 

      the best interest of the sport of auto racing, your fellow competitors, fans, or 

      management of Lavonia Speedway.

 

10.  Anyone caught drinking or fighting will be suspended for one week for the first

      offense, two weeks for the second offense, and suspension for thirty days for the

      third offense.  No tow money or points will be given if you are suspended.

 

11.  For any unnecessary roughness on race track, the race will be stopped and the

      person or persons will be put into the pits.

 

12.  Any car for which the Yellow Flag is displayed must re-start in the rear.  When

      wheels quit turning, car must go to the rear or at the flagman or scorer descrecion.

 

 

13.  No work can be done on race cars on track.  All work on race cars must be done

       in the pit area.

 

14.  Drivers will be paid according to laps completed, unless disqualified.

 

15.  The pay off on a red and checkered flag will be the same as a re-start.

 

16.  New cars must meet all track rules.

 

17.  All cars subject to inspection by track officials at anytime.  Any driver, car owner,

      or pit crew caught drinking alcoholic beverages at any time during race event will

      automatically forfeit any money said car has won for this meet.  Driver responsible 

      for the entire pit crew. If driver is caught drinking or fighting, he will be   

      suspended.

 

18.  Any car or cars caught illegal receive no money.

 

19.  Any driver suspended or disqualified receives no money for the event.

 

20.  Refusing to obey officials or arguing over the decision of officials may result in

      laps taken away or suspension, at the discretion of management.

 

21.  First time competitors with minor violation may race one time by adding weight.

 

22.  Protest must be made within 5 minutes after completion of features.  Any verbal

      or physical arguments between anyone involved in a protest will result in their

      immediate disqualification and forfeiture of winnings for that event.  35% of all

      protests will go to track for expenses.

 

23.  All cars must have fire extinguishers.

 

24.  If you spin out to gain or keep position, you must go to rear with spin out car.

 

25.  Track management reserves the right to update, modify, add or delete rules at

       anytime without prior notification.

 

 

FLAGS

 

A.             YELLOW FLAG:             Everyone slow down to a safe speed and follow the                                                     

                                                       car you were behind the last green lap.  You will be

                                                       lined back up on the track where you were running.

 

B.         RED FLAG:                     This flag means danger.  Stop as quickly as

                                                       possible.  Do not pass the flagman when this flag is 

                                                       displayed.  The cars will be again be lined up as they

                                                       were running on the last lap.  Cars that require            

                                                       repairs must go to the pits.  If car returns to track, it

                                                       must start in the rear.                                  

 

C.              BLACK FLAG:                This flag means PULL INTO THE PITS.

 

D.         LAP FLAG:                     Blue with yellow stripe - displayed to cars being

                                                       lapped.  Must allow lead cars to pass.                           

 

E.            WHITE FLAG:                 Means (1) one lap to go.

 

 

 

 

 

LATE MODEL RULES

 

 

Frame

A.        Jig frames permitted.

B.         Frames may be interchanged.

           

Roll Cage

A.        All cars have boxed roll cage with 1 1/2 o.d. x .083" min.

B.         Must have 3 bars in left door and 2 bars in right door.

 

Wheelbase

A.        103 inches minimum with ½ inch tolerance SIDE TO SIDE.

 

 

Steering and Spindles

A.        Rack and pinion permitted.

B.         Any spindles permitted.

 

Brakes

A.        Any four wheel disc brakes permitted.

B.         Dual master cylinder permitted.

C.         Any clutch and brake pedal permitted.

 

Tires

A.        Any Hoosier SPEC. or CRATE tire permitted (no grooving or cutting).          

B.         No inner liners.

C.         No experimental tires.

           

 

Wheels

A.        Steel or aluminum.

B.         14" maximum width.

C.         Bead locks permitted.

 

Firewall

A.        Must have approved firewall and floor plan.

B.            Tunnels permitted.

 

Body

A.        SAS (Stars Bodies) bodies permitted.

B.         All cars must have grille or rubber nose piece.

C.         8" spoilers with 18" side brace will be allowed.

D.        Nose piece cannot extend more than 46" beyond center of front wheel.

 

Engine Placement

A.        Engine must not be more than 2” from center of the frame rail.

B.         Engine setback will be 6” (six inches) from center of top ball-joint to most

            forward spark plug (1/2 tolerance).

 

Engine

A.        362 cubic inches maximum.

B.         Cast iron block only.

 

Engine (cont'd)

C.         Flat top pistons.

D.        The dome may be removed from pop-up type pistons to make flat top pistons.

E.        .060" overbore permitted.

F.         High performance camshafts permitted.

G.        No mushroom or roller lifters permitted.

H.        Any steel rods permitted - no polishing rods except for clearance.

I.              Crankshafts may be deburred.

J.          302 Fords may be stroked to meet 362 cubic inches.

K.        No knife edge cranks permitted.

L.         Any wet oil pans permitted.

M.        Lifter valley may be polished.

N.            Balancing permitted.

O.        Engine may be crossed from one manufacturer to another.

P.            Crankshaft stock stroke for make and model.

Q.        No Dry sump permitted.

 

Heads

A.        Cast iron only.

B.         No polishing, porting, or matching of ports.

C.         No titanium valves.

D.        H.P. valve springs and retainers permitted.

E.            Titanium retainers permitted.

F.         Needle bearing rocker arms permitted.

G.            Maximum valve size:  For all engines, Intakes: 2.020, Exhaust: 1.600.

H.        Chev. 23 degree heads only.  Angle cut heads permitted only Chev.

I.          Screw in studs and guide plates permitted.  Shaft rocker arm assembly permitted.

J.            Competition valve job permitted.

 

Intake Manifold

A.            Aluminum intake permitted.

B.         One carburetor only/open.

C.         Special production carburetors permitted.

D.        No porting or polishing on intake.

 

Ignition

A.        No magnetos.

B.         Dual point and electronic distributors permitted.

C.            Ignition boosters permitted.

D.        Racing coils permitted.

E.        M.S.D. distributors permitted.

 

 

Rear Ends

A.        Any type auto rear end permitted.

B.            Floaters permitted.

C.         Quick change rear ends permitted.

D.        Torque bar permitted.

E.        Fifth coil permitted.

 

Transmissions

A.            Automatic transmission permitted.

B.         Must have at least one forward and one reverse.

C.         Must have enough linkage to operate gears from drivers seat.

D.        Bert or Brinn permitted.

 

Radiators

A.            Aluminum radiators permitted.

 

Starters

A.        All cars must start under own power.

 

Bumpers

A.            Homemade bumpers.

B.         Must have two hooks on front.

C.         Must be free of exposed sharp edges.

D.        Must be securely attached.

 

Protest Fees

A.        One head $600.

B.            Complete Car $1000.

C.         Check wheel base and engine set back $200.

D.        Pull oil pan $300.

E.        P & G $100.

F.         Visual protest $25 per item.

Race Track keeps 35% of all protest fees.

Frame

A.        Stock for make and model.

 

Roll Cage

A.        All cars must have boxed cage with 1 1/2" o.d. x .095" minimum tubing's.

B.         Must have 3 bars in left door and two bars in right door.

C.         Loop around engine compartment permitted.

D.        Two bars may run top main roll cage loop to rear frame rails.

 

Wheelbase

A.        Stock for make and model ½  inch tolerance SIDE TO SIDE.

 

Suspension

A.        Must be stock for make and model.

B.         Jack Bolts permitted.

C.         Racing shocks permitted.

D.        Racing springs permitted.

E.            Aftermarket Top A Frames permitted; must be mounted on stock frame mount only.

 

Steering

A.        Stock for make and model.

 

Brakes

A.        3-Wheel brakes system permitted. Factory disc brakes on rear permitted no

            aluminum.

 

Wheel/Tires

A.        Steel wheels only - 8" or 10” permitted.

B.         Track tire HOOSIER 30 permitted. No grooving or cutting.

C.            Oversize studs and lugs are permitted.

D.        1/2" on A&B.

E.        Bead locks permitted.

 

Ignition

A.        Factory HEI or point only.

 

Rear Ends

A.        Stock for make and model.

B.         May be locked.

C.         9 inch Ford permitted

 

Body

A.        Factory stock / aftermarket bodies permitted.  No homemade bodies allowed.

B.         All glass and flammable material items must be removed.

C.            Headlights, tail lights, and wheel covers must be removed.

D.        Body may be hulled.

E.        Doors must be strapped, welded or bolted.

F.         Area between driver and gas tank must be totally covered with sheet metal.

G.        May run after market nose; 6 inch max material; 18 inch side spoiler. 

H.        Body must be closed in rear.

 

Bumpers

A.        Stock for make and model.

B.         Must be securely attached.

C.         Must have lifting hook for wrecker.

D.        Must not have exposed sharp edges.

E.        Must be track approved.

 

Engines

A.        Must be stock for make and model.

B.         Must be in original location 1 inch tolerance.

C.         .060" overbore permitted.

D.            Headers permitted. Full length parallel to ground.

E.        Chev. GM 362 cubes inch maximum.

F.         CAM GM up to 488 lift maximum at valve hyd. or solid.

G.        Stock rods only.  Stock stroke for make and model.

H.        Flat top 4 valve relief pistons, no light weight.

I.          Stock crankshaft only, no polishing.

J.            Aluminum water pump and pulleys permitted.

K.        Ford and Dodge stroke may vary.

 

Heads

A.            Maximum valve size intake 1.940, Exhaust 1.500.

B.         No angle cut heads.

C.         Stock valve job only.

D.        No porting or polishing.

E.        Heads 300 H.P. permitted.   Roller rocker arms permitted.

F.         Screw in studs & plates permitted.

G.        GM Head numbers: 416, 882, 993, 041, 487, 336, and VORTEC only.

H.        No ten degree Ford heads permitted.  Must be factory type heads.  World products heads permitted #WRL-053030-1   180cc intake runner and 58cc combustion chambers.

 

Intake Manifold

A.        After market intake permitted.

B.         One 4-barrell type only.

C.         High performance intakes permitted.

D.            Aluminum quadra-jet intakes permitted.

 

Carburetor

A.        Stock for make and model.

B.         Choke flap may be removed.

C.         Stock 3310 Holley Single Pump only.

D.        Meter block permitted in back.

 

Flywheel/Clutch

A.        Steel flywheel only.

B.         Z-28 flywheel permitted.

C.            Pressure plate and clutch disc must be stock appearing for make and model.

D.            Flywheel must weigh a minimum of 14 lbs.

 

Fuel

A.        Gas only.

B.         No additives.

C.         Fuel must check -5 or  +5 with gas checker compared to track fuel.

D.            Electric fuel pumps are not permitted.

E.        Nitrous oxide systems not permitted.

F.         No supercharges or turbochargers permitted.

 

Radiators

A.        Any type radiator.

 

Starters

A.        All cars must start under its own power.

 

Transmission

A.        Stock 3, 4, or 5 speed are permitted.

B.            Automatic transmissions are permitted.

C.         Must have all gears in transmission.

 

Safety Requirements

A.            Approved helmets and firesuits.

B.            Properly installed 3" quick release lap belt with a 2" shoulder harness in good             condition.

C.            Properly mounted fuel tank in trunk.

D.            Securely mounted fuel tank in trunk.

E.        Must have securely mounted bucket type or racing seat.

 

Numbers

A.        Must be at least 18" high on both sides of the car.

B.         Must be visible and legible to scoring tower.

 

Protest Fees

A.        One head, bore, stroke, head, carb, and intake $500.

B.         Oil Pan $200.

C.            Flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate $250.

D.        Wheel base and engine placement $150.

E.            Complete car $800

Race Track keeps 35% of all protest fees.

A.        Weight rule 2900 lbs anytime.

H.        Rubber nose permitted.  No slope nose will be permitted.

J.          Deck height on spoiler six inch maximum.

K.        Stock appearing aluminum sides and top permitted.  Must be stock appearing.

 

Bumper

A.        Stock for make and model.

B.         Must be securely attached.

C.         Must not have exposed sharp edges.

D.        Must be track approved.

 

Flywheel/Clutch

A.        Any 16 lb. flywheel permitted.

B.            pressure plate and clutch disc must be stock for make and model.

 

Fuel

A.        Gas only.

A.            Aluminum is permitted.

 

Starters

A.        All cars must start under its own power.

A.        Stock 3, 4, or 5 speed are permitted.

C.         Cam lift 455 max.  Hyd. cam only.

D.        Cam gear permitted.

E.        Stock cast iron maifold only.  No header.

F.         Chevy cam lift 434 - plus .005 at valve.

G.        Shims under lifter permitted.

           

Intake Manifold

A.        Fuel injected intake permitted.  No sidewinder intake permitted.

A.        1” spacer or adapter permitted.

B.         500 carb. Permitted part number 4412, no polishing and porting. No after market carb.  Motorcraft or Holly permitted.

HOBBY

 

FRAME & CHASSIS
A. Automatic frames permitted.
B. Automotive snout must include: cross member, spring pockets, horns, and attaching rail as one complete unit as it was assembled at the factory. May trim spring pockets for clearance of racing springs and spring buckets.
C. Wheelbase of 103” on snout frames or stock for make and model on stock frame cars.

SUSPENSION
A. NO coil over springs permitted.
B. Jack bolts, racing springs, and racing shock permitted (4” min. spring).
C. Racing leaf springs permitted – steel or fiberglass on rear (one type only).
D. Bottom A-frame must be stock – no shortening or lengthening allowed.
E. Top A-frame must be tubular, but only be adjustable at the mounting plates to frame.
F. Any GM or Ford spindle permitted, wide 5 hubs permitted.
G. Front spring pockets must be in original location.
H. No 5th coils. Air shock permitted.
I. Lift bars permitted. Fiberglass/Pan hard Bar/Solid Rubber Biscuit permitted.
J. Coil over eliminators permitted.

STEERING

REAR END
A. Stock type rear end or equivalent.

A. Any American car except convertibles, compacts, pick up trucks, or station wagons.

C. Must be steel or aluminum, no fiberglass bodies permitted.
D. Must have grille or rubber noise piece.
E. Must have approved firewall and floor pan.
F. Spoiler not to exceed 8” and width of quarter panels. Side braces may not exceed 18”.
G. Rear bodies not to exceed 48”, including spoiler.
H. Nose piece cannot extend more than 46” from center of front wheel.

C. Bracing permitted.

ENGINE
